Abstract:
Mecatronics is an Engineering branch focused on the study, design and production of new products that combine mechanics, electronics optics, advanced management and computerization.
Mecatronics, as an emerging discipline, shows enormous potential technologies that have become more necessary in the last decade as the appearance of sophisticated products and systems has been growing up. Nowadays, the production processes of most of the electronic devices and systems require an important application of mecatronics (e.g.: Satellites or artificial pacemakers). These kinds of devices would have never appeared without the important participation of mecatronics in their development or just by using one isolated discipline. A single view of the most interesting industrial sectors such as automotion, aerospatial, biotechnology, electronics or robotics shows the scientific and strategic importance of this speciality.
Mecatronic Engineering is a Graduate and Postgraduate Degree widely extended all around Europe, the USA and most of the technologically developed countries in the world. Taking a look to the Mecatronic studies in Spain, it can be seen that there are just three specific masters in Mecatronic Engineering In Oviedo, Málaga and Vigo but, unfortunately there is no Degree neither in the Valencian Region nor in the closest Spanish regions. Attending to this fact, this Degree proposal intends to expand the offer of these studies and make them easier to choose by the valencian students. In addition, it will be good for the development of the valencian industrial net as the increasing difficulty of the modern industrial processes need professionals in this engineering. Actually, most of the related jobs are occupied by engineers from other specialities that are not supposed to have all the skills that will be acquired with this Postgraduate Degree. In this sense, most of the local and international enterprises located in the Valencian Region have shown a great interest in the future Graduates of this Degree.
The goal of this paper is to show the design and development of the above mentioned Degree in the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería del Diseño (ETSID) at the Polytechnic University of Valencia. Keywords:
