Abstract:
This article initially situates research against the backdrop of the threefold function of a higher education institution, which is teaching, research and community service. Research is seen to be a tool to effective teaching and extension activities. The Commission on Higher Education’s National Higher Education Research Agenda 1998-2007, which was launched in 1998 ushered in an unprecedented emphasis on research in higher education institutions. The article also emphasizes on the multidisciplinary or inter-disciplinary researches and the crucial role of academic administrators in the growth and progress of research in any Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the Philippines. The article ends by stressing the gains that can be derived by educators from doing research as a professional and as a part of the teaching force of the university and by posing a challenge to conduct scholarly research in order to make a difference in the field of teaching.
