VIDEO-TUTORIALS ELABORATION PROCESS FOR ENHANCING THE LEARNING OF THE SUBJECT "PHYSIOTHERAPY IN PRIMARY CARE"

Introduction: The use of audiovisual support is one of the most used and motivating options to improve the teaching materials aimed to support the teaching-learning process. This is especially meaningful in degrees such as Physiotherapy, in which the development of practical skills constitutes an essential competence. This method, among which videos-tutorials are included, has the advantage of allowing the presentation of contents and real situations that bring professional practice closer to the classroom. These formats of teaching material require a greater participation of teachers in the design and development of the new contents.
Objective: To elaborate video-tutorials for enhancing learning of the didactic unit "Primary care in the pregnant and puerperium" within the subject "Physiotherapy in primary care" of the Physiotherapy Degree of the University of Valencia (UV).
Methodology: During the academic year 2017/2018, a teaching innovation project was carried out based on the design and elaboration of 14 video-tutorials of approximately one minute each. After a meticulous period of design and contents planning based on existing scientific evidence, the videos were created by the professors with the support of the audiovisual technicians of the teaching innovation unit of the UV. These videos deal with health’s prevention and promotion of pregnant women and postpartum, including the aspects addressed in the theoretical-practical contents of the above mentioned teaching unit. The videos show the recommended therapeutic exercise at each stage of pregnancy and in the first postpartum phase. Participation in the videos was voluntary, involving pregnant women in different pregnancy trimesters, after signing the informed consent. Three teachers participated in the videos taping, managing the exercises in order to be correctly performed. The videos were used by students as reference material and as a complement to the lessons.
Results: Throughout the whole academic year the videos were available for the students. Two ways were used to access the videos: a) Multimedia video streaming server of the UV, implemented and supported by the Informatics’ Service, and b) through YouTube.
Conclusion: The elaboration of videos as a teaching complement is a valuable and useful experience for the students’ learning process.
