Abstract:
In recent years, worldwide political and commercial developments, in particular the massive increase in American economic domination have contributed to label English as an international language. In view of these worldwide transitions in the function, contexts of use, and ownership of English, it seems necessary to prepare elementary-level students at the Faculty of Business Management of a Mexican public university to deal with possible future international business affairs in which, at least, a basic command of business English will be required. It appears that despite these students have to attend two elementary English courses at the early stage of their professional training; this does not well equip them for their actual needs. Accordingly, the design and possible implementation of a business English syllabus for elementary-level students may fulfill their work related basic needs. In this paper, we will explain the whole design process of a business English syllabus for elementary-level students at the Faculty of Business Management of a Mexican public university. Finally, we will discuss the implications of implementing this syllabus and will provide an overall reflection on its design.
