Abstract:
Research on education, training and reading interests of professionals has gained momentum across the world. This is because skills and knowledge acquired through the avenues impact positively on service delivery especially in an era characterized by changing and complex consumer needs. To keep abreast with research studies in other countries in this area of interest, the present study investigates the reading preferences and habits of Nigerian Estate Surveyors and Valuers. Questionnaires were administered on 169 Estate Surveyors and Valuers and the analysis revealed that the real estate professionals have preference for published materials in the real estate and construction industry. In addition, it was found that the Nigerian real estate professionals read regularly; a maximum of 240 articles per year and update their knowledge majorly from attending professional workshops and seminars. It was also found that the highest educational qualifications attained by the professionals have been identified to impact significantly on their reading habits. It was recommended that Estate Surveyors that possessed only the first degree should improve on their reading culture to match up with those with post graduate qualifications.
