Abstract:
The main objective of our the university University is to educate the professionals of the future. These professionals must be prepared to meet the needs of society by using the advancement of knowledge to improve people's quality of life in a sustainable way. It is essential that our students are familiar with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, as well as the main challenges facing society and the tools to address and solve these problems.
This paper presents the methodology implemented for the development of final projects for Bachelor's and Master's degrees in three university centers of the University of the Basque Country: two Schools of Engineering and one School of Architecture. The collaboration between students and teachers lecturers in these centers focuses on research projects aimed at improving the quality of life of the elderly through active and healthy ageing.
Students will actively participate in the tasks of these research projects. This methodology has several objectives. One of them is to complete the development of their curriculum by dealing with a topic relevant to current and future society, which is not included in the educational programmes of the above-mentioned centers, but which future engineers and architects will have to face together. Another objective is to allow students to work with health professionals, social workers and other experts from outside the engineering and architectural fields, who are part of the teams in which they will work. Finally, this experience represents their first participation in a research project. Keywords:
