IDENTIFICATION OF FACTORS AFFECTING PUPILS CHOICES OF SECONDARY SCHOOL

Abstract:
Pupils leaving primary school face a decision that significantly shapes their professional life and growth. With regard to trends and forecasts of the development of the Slovak labor market and with an emphasis on personal preconditions and abilities, it is important to prepare students for successful completion of the chosen study at the secondary school. With the right decision, they can significantly influence their future professional career and success in the labor market.
One of the steps in the innovation of Slovak education with the aim of motivating students for a better understanding of technically oriented professions at primary school were two national projects implemented with the support of the European Social Fund "Support of vocational orientation of primary school students skills and working with talents’’. Their aim was to optimize the content of education in the context of today's needs and to reform the education and training system.
The schools involved in the project acquired modern equipment for teaching Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Technology. The projects used innovative forms and methods of teaching with an emphasis on the fact that pupils in primary school prepare for the decision about their future profession and their professional career.
The priority focus was tied to the needs of modern society, to those fields that the labor market requires and in which the student could find their implementation.
The paper is focused on the main goal of the project Dielne i. connection and continuity of primary schools with secondary vocational schools and at the same time with employers, as well as to identify factors that affect the professional orientation of the student, identify the professional potential of the student and the main approaches to identifying the typology of personality with regard to professional development.
The main goal of the paper was to analyze and identify the factors that decisively influence students in choosing a high school, and which act on students as important determinants of shaping their professional orientation in focusing on the category of technical professions.
The article presents the results of our servey on a sample of 311 pupils. We use descriptive statistics methode to present the results of a survey that examined the factors that most influence primary school students in the selection od secondary schools. What type of high school is this and what were the reasons for students to choose this type of high school. To what extent are they represented in the selection of students of the school with technical focus. Keywords:
