Abstract:
Within the first two decades of the third millennium, the evolution of e-Learning exceeded all the expectations and became an important tool that should be available in schools, universities, any other educational institutions and workplaces.

This paper presents an e-Learning platform that helps primary school students to enhance their learning process. The platform enables students to access useful educational resources (e.g. photos, videos, animations, virtual laboratories, quizzes, games…) that help them to better understand what the tutor explained in a lecture and to discover more information in a fun and attractive way. It allows also the children to review the materials that were explained in the classroom.

The platform allows tutors to track the evolution of their students and to organize competitive quizzes for a selected group of students. The tutor can create manually a group that contain multiple students or to use groups are generated automatically by the platform based on the knowledge level of each student in a determined topic. In addition, the platform allows the parents to track the evolution of their children, the history of their activities as well as their interactions with the tutors.

Each user has a profile in which the users store their personal information, their preferences and their relation with other users, as well as other useful information. The platform tracks each user’s performance and emotional status during the use of the platform (e.g. quizzes, engaging with the learning materials…) and update the profile of the user according to the collected information.

The platform integrates an avatar and a multimodal interface which makes the interaction easier and more attractive for the students. In additional to the traditional inputs the interface of the platform supports touch and voice inputs and generates visual and phonetic outputs.
The platform is multilingual, it has several customizable and adaptive features such as adapting the quizzes level according to the knowledge level of each user (beginner, intermediate and advanced) in the topic and according to his/her previous performances, and adapting the avatar and the educational resources according to the user’s preferences and/or emotional status.

Once a student register to a new topic, a quiz will be performed then according to the student’s performance and according to his/her profile, the platform will generate and suggest a learning plan to the student. The generated plan will be based on the evolutions of previous students that had similar profiles and similar initial quiz performances.
