Abstract:
The need for any evaluation process to use objective and impartial systems means that, on some occasions, procedures for conditioning the initial marks obtained by a students group in a first phase of evaluation process must be modified up or down.
The present project consists in a study of the influence of the system used in Anglo-Saxon universities: SCALING, would have on the marks of the students in engineering School.

The SCALING system is the official modification of the students' marks, given by the teacher, in the different groups, subjects, courses or groups depending where it is applied. This modification would be done through statistical adjustments, mathematical models or others criteria. The application of it is exceptional, but that its mere existence could have a strong influence on the results of the evaluation processes.

The statistical adjustment that is applied and the group on which it is carried out, changes totally its effect and it is the study field in this work.

In many cases, it is considered a fairer system than the compensatory system used in some Spanish Universities.

The analysis of the results that the implementation of the concept have in one Spanish University would provide a totally objective point of view of the teaching results. Basically the project analyses different scenes depending of the cohort where apply the model: each subject will be compared with other subjects in their environment (group, course, degree, school) and all the collectives involved (students, teachers and administration) will be able to value the evaluation process results with objective and statistically standardized criteria.
Many Anglo-Saxon universities, so often highlighted in the rankings, apply these methods to their degrees, masters or university entrance exams.
