Abstract:
In a constantly changing environment, education systems must focus on shaping future citizens, capable of adapting to any social, economic, and technological change. Lifelong learning skills foster people’s capacity to deal with change. Research has shown that the students' way of studying, the so-called "Learning Approaches" (LA), concerns both the quality of learning and the cultivation of lifelong characteristics. The primary purpose of this survey is to explore the LA adopted by the students (N = 138) of the 3rd year of Lyceum, in the economics course "Principles of Economic Theory" under the prism of the Greek centralized and examination-centred educational system. To investigate the objective mentioned above, the Revised Two Factor Learning Process Questionnaire (R-LPQ-2F) research tool was used. The results reveal statistically significant differences between the two categories of Lyceum (General and Model / Experimental) and the different students’ objectives for continuing their future studies. On the contrary, gender and dyslexia do not seem to be influencing factors of LA. This survey offers valuable insight into the goal of the Greek educational system to empower students to develop deeper motivations, which will result in a love for learning and its approach with deeper understanding.
