SOCIAL MEDIA NETWORKS AND THEIR IMPACT ON SOCIAL AND ETHICAL VALUES AMONG SAUDI UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

Abstract:
This study aimed at exploring usage of social media network by Saudi university students and their impact on social and ethical values , that is by determining both positive and negative influences of these social networks and their impact on social and ethical values as well. Fittingly , to achieve the objectives of the study , the two researchers used the descriptive method. Also, a questionnaire with two parts was prepared by the two. The first part of the questionnaire included the demographic data of individuals of this purposive study sample, and the second part included (39) items phrases which were given out over four pivots. Moreover, the purposive study sample consisted of about (354) King Khalid and Najran University, College of Education male and female students was also surveyed by the two researchers as well. The results revealed that, the usage of social media network by Saudi university students was positively affected them and made searching and surfing for scientific information more easier and easy accessible as well. Also, the results demonstrated that social media use by these students improved their skills and knowledge on one hand,but on the other hand ,social media usage negatively affected the students' time management by wasting their time. Also, social media usage negatively affected family relationship by creating a gap between the student and his/her family members. Moreover, the social media usage negatively affected studnts' friendships by losing the mutual excellent communication with friends. The results also indicated that there are statistically significant differences in the negative impact of social media usage on the social values that could be attributed to variable of the university. There are also statistically significant differences in the impact on the social values that could be attributed to variable of gender that is due to the female students' attribution. There are also statistically significant differences that could be attributed to variable of time which could be a factor affects students' time negatively that is due to the female students' attribution. Finally, on the light of the above-mentioned results of the study , the two researchers put forward some recommendations and suggestions. Keywords:
