Abstract:
Engineering projects are often arranged by work teams that are integrated by experts from different fields, backgrounds and with specific skills. This is not the common approach when the project is developed in an academic context for the reason that the work is done by students from the same academic degree that join the same subject. This learning scenario leads to partial and disintegrated knowledge and is not the best approach to perform realistic engineering projects.
In order to improve the current teaching and learning methodologies, which are mostly focused on acquiring competences from a single discipline. We are proposing a new strategy based on the development of an interdisciplinary project: Designing a Cellar. To this end, we have created a teachers’ team with lecturers in different technical academic degrees (Architecture, Enology, Industrial Engineering, Agronomy and Design Engineering). In this way, the project will involve students from different subjects that are focusing on the same problem from the point of view of their field of studies. In order to interchange the results and have a periodical feedback among students and teachers some periodical workshops will be prepared. Moreover, students will keep up-to-date with the status of their colleagues’ contributions by means of an e-learning platform. The cellar project, with all comments and suggestion of both the teachers and the enrolled students will be available in the e-learning platform. The final project will be presented and discussed in an interdisciplinary seminar.
