Abstract:
This paper describes the use of the evaluation system EVAL used in welcoming session for new students. EVAL is designed to collect response from an audience and gives the lecturer the possibility to change her performance according to the given response. In this case study, new students are having their first day at the university. They have received a welcoming letter with links to instructions on how to register their curriculum, define pin code and password, find their username and email on the university data system and finally pay a small student fee. Out of experience, we know that there always will be a fraction of students failing to complete their tasks. We also know that the fraction of students with completed tasks have gradually increased with general higher digital competence in the population. In earlier years, we have had the students to raise hands to find in which procedures it will be necessary to guide the students. The use of EVAL will help the instructor to identify exactly what kind of assistance the students will need. In addition, we want to find out if there might be any correlations between the ability to fulfil online tasks and age, gender or preferred academic field.
