Abstract:
This study examines the assessment of student learning outcomes in Slovak primary schools, with a particular focus on the practical implementation of formative assessment. The topic is especially relevant in the context of the ongoing educational reform in Slovakia, which emphasizes learning support and competence development. Our research is based on a three-year development program, in which 40 mentors support and monitor the adoption and practical application of formative assessment tools at both lower and upper primary levels. The article not only reviews international literature and theoretical frameworks but also presents concrete, tested assessment tools and examples from Slovak classroom practice. Our findings highlight teachers’ attitudes, the challenges and opportunities of implementation, and provide recommendations for further development of assessment practices within the reform.
