Abstract:
The main purpose of this presentation is to socialize the project “A proposal of teacher development mediated by ICT" carried out by the research group “Hypermedia, Evaluation and English language learning” from Universidad Pedagógica Nacional. This research was developed last year with twenty one teachers from three state schools in Bogotá. It explores the role a development proposal mediated by ICTs plays in the professional growth of English teachers to develop listening skills and intercultural competence.
The main questions of the research were:
1. What role does a development proposal based on ICT play in the professional growth of some state school teachers in Bogotá?
2. How do teachers put together the strategic knowledge in the development of podcasts for their students?
The Objective was to explore how English teachers from state schools perceive the use of hypermedia and technological tools in the development of their listening skills and intercultural competence.
The data for this project was gathered by means of a preliminary survey about teachers’ perceptions on technology, some logs throughout the process of teacher training sessions and interviews at the end of each of the stages of the research.
The theoretical framework for the project is built up around different aspects such as, the importance and relevance of the use of ICTs for improving language learning, the state of the art of the use of technology in education, as well as the improvement of language proficiency for teachers. Other topics discussed are technological resources and teacher development programs.
