Abstract:
The use of web portals to support learning, teaching and management of student data from a university is an interesting issue, since the teacher facilitates the realization of some teaching and management tasks, such as the dissemination of documents or query student data. Also, the use of web portals is important because it encourages autonomy and self-study student, since it can make use of such services at any time and from anywhere.
University of Granada has currently available to the teachers and students three e-learning platforms: the board of teaching (which was first used), the SWAD (which emerged in 1999 and raised in the context of three projects as a teaching innovation tool of this type) and more recently the MOODLE (used for virtual subjects only). These platforms are freely chosen by the teacher in each subject, and students may have to use up to 3 different platforms for the subjects of the same career. In the case of some subjects taught by several teachers, each teacher uses a different platform and students should use several different platforms even for a subject.
The aim of this study is to gather information about the opinions of students at the University of Granada on the digital resources provided to them through one of three platforms SWAD, Moodle or board of teaching.
Specifically, the topics addressed in the study are:
- If using a platform (or several) in a subject
- What kind of resources have been provided
- The frequency of use of such resources
- The utility that they believe they have the resources
- What kind of computer resources is available to the student at home
- The general opinion they have on the resources provided
From the results of the descriptive analysis of these data we draw some conclusions:
1 The students are quite satisfied with the materials provided on various platforms. A large majority say that these materials are good or very good and not feel the lack of any digital resource.
2 On the use of the platforms considered shows that the most used is by far the board of teaching that has been used by all students surveyed, followed by moodle and the least has been used is the SWAD platform.
3 On the use of available resources stands out from all the summaries of theory and examples that are used by more students and more often than the rest. Also a large majority say they are very useful for them.
4 As regards the availability of computing resources is noteworthy that the vast majority of pupils desktop, laptop and printer in color. They also have all students have at least one hour a day for internet access.
