Abstract:
The Design Thinking (DS) methodology seeks to understand a problem from a more open, dynamic and creative point of view. In the educational context, DS allows the creation of experiences which integrate theory and practice, involve the application of knowledge, and develop core skills (hard) and transferable skills (soft). Moreover, DS method encourage students to participate actively. In this work, a project in which students should design and create a product that meets a demand of a social group was intended. That is, from a service-learning approach. Specifically, the projects had to design, model and 3D print pieces that would help secondary school students with spatial visualization problems. The activity was carried out inside the Engineering Drawing subject of an Industrial Engineering Degree. Engineering Drawing is a mandatory subject taught in the first year. This subject is linked to the academic disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM). This classroom experience was developed in coordination with a secondary school that defined the demands. The results are shown of the DS methodology and its implementation.
