Abstract:
This paper presents the process involved in the development of a prototype of an educational game called Argumentus, which was built on the model of Self-Regulated Strategy Development (SRSD), and which is scientifically proven to be an effective means of improving the composition of argumentative opinion texts of students with problems and difficulties in writing, and a Monitoring Game System (MGS) able to acquire, interpret and analyze data arising from play sessions. Firstly, we began by exploring the concept of the game, its features and its importance for children. We then exposed the theoretical and empirical foundations that support this work (ex. components, features and models involved) and proceeded to the discussion of the obtained results. Finally, we presented the limitations encountered, made suggestions for future investigations and concluded that it was possible to exploit real writing problems through play and by using information technology and, reinforce the need and importance of following up and monitoring the use of games.
