Abstract:
The presentation aims to introduce an EU-granted project about the implementation of electronic INSET for the novice teachers of English in Turkey. It highlights the current approaches and teacher autonomy in INSET, and teacher needs for e-learning in the literature review. The focus of the talk is to present how such implementation could be carried out within the European partnership framework, how the structure of the learning management system for the English Language teachers could be established with the external and internal evaluation mechanisms, and how the interaction between tutors, mentors, and participating teachers takes place. What e-INSET NET offers is that the novice teachers participating in the e- INSET NET programme get an access to the online content, and carry out the given tasks. At the end, they are helped to develop materials for their English classes and compile them in a virtual pool. While the novices do these activities, they reframe their understanding of INSET and have an ownership on their own learning and teaching as well as they create their own materials and develop their ICT skills. The presentation will give some insights to create constructivist context through an e-learning platform and provide an integrated training scheme for language teacher education.
