Abstract:
Recent human resource development (HRD) research, premised on accelerating social change and technological innovation, has focused on the impact of employee values, emotions, and attitudes (work engagement) on productivity. In this context, job crafting has been studied as a method for simultaneously promoting skill development and work engagement. While skilled workers with job knowledge and experience may unconsciously engage in job crafting, which leads to skill improvement, inexperienced junior employees often lack the ability to find meaning in their work or creatively adapt their work, requiring intentional support. In Japan, OJT (On the Job Training) is used as a method of human resource development in the workplace. OJT is generally explained as "a supervisor systematically providing education and training to subordinates on the necessary knowledge, skills, problem-solving abilities, and attitudes through the course of their work". This study examined the effectiveness of incorporating job crafting skills into OJT as a method for accelerating the development of new employees.
