Abstract:
The aim of this paper is to study the way e-Portfolios are used as an educational tool for evaluation and self-evaluation of both teachers and students. Nowadays the application of technology in education has become the new reality leading to the creation of the "new digital school". As such, e-Portfolios can be seen as a natural evolution of the traditional portfolios within the context of developing and cultivating the necessary skills of technological literacy.
It is a case study in an elementary private school in Athens in 4th grade. This portfolios are show-cases of the work of children where they attempt to present their strengths in a visible way, using technology.
By using instruments of qualitative research, we will look into the use of e-Portfolios as a tool capable of contributing to the development of students skills and the change or bettering of the teachers educational profile.
Every change presupposes enthusiasm, innovative activities, fear, mistrust and even insecurity. Our aim is to pinpoint the elements and factors the teachers consider important and necessary in order to contribute and even lead to the change in the educational reality of today. In addition, the school's management constitutes an important factor as the teachers of the school place high expectations on it so as to cultivate the appropriate supportive environment. It is of high importance that all innovative actions should be strengthened within an environment of cooperation and encouragement.
