Abstract:
Is the use of learning management systems (LMS) related to improved academic performance? Does LMS help equally to all students or can groups be identified within them? These are the research questions driving this study.

The sample was composed of 912 undergraduate, business students (55.8% male and 43.8% female), with an average final grade of 4.95 out of 10 (SD = 2.29). Results were obtained after screening the students’ logs to the virtual campus created for the "Business Administration" course in the Moodle platform.

Using descriptive statistical methodologies (means and standard deviations), parametric and non-parametric correlation analysis, internal consistency, and cluster and univariate variance analysis were carried out.

Three students’ clusters or profiles can be identified:
a) a profile of high-performing students that belong to morning groups,
b) a profile of students with an average performance
c) a profile of low-performing, male students, with irregular participation, who mainly take courses in the afternoon.
