Abstract:
This study aims to investigate the research trends and disciplines in using social media tools in translation studies based on journal articles on the Scopus database. Several dimensions including the research methods, applications, and areas; types of agents, applications in practice; and research challenges were taken into account. The results show that the number of social media tools used in translation programmes has increased in the last 10 years (2010–2019), and the use of digital technology is popular within various types of studies. Translation techniques have developed both significantly and rapidly from individual approaches to collaborative methods using advanced Web 2.0 social media tools. Meanwhile, social media tools used in the disciplines of medicine and health interpretation programmes have gained an increase in popularity in professional practices in both institutions and markets in the last five years (2015–2019). However, the overall use of social media tools for traditional literature translation programmes are limited, and research issues and challenges of using social media tools in translation programmes are further discussed.
