Abstract:
In this paper the authors present the study that seeks to apply the main principles of Synergetics to formation and development of corporate competency to provide adequate performance of future hospitality experts and maximize their productivity in the field. The choice of Synergetics, a modern theory of evolution, self-organization and sustainability of multiform systems, is determined by the increased complexity of hospitality sector and predominant role of human factor in its development. The authors view corporate competency of management in terms of recognition of company values, team working skills, client-focused approach and effective communication. However, it is recognized that traditional educational programs in hospitality do not respond adequately to rapidly growing industry needs. Taking into consideration rapidly growing specific demands in the corporate competency in Russia, the authors deem essential to incorporate human-oriented synergetic innovations in current educational hospitality management curricula. Results of a survey of the Russian entrants who aspire to study Hospitality have shown that, on the one hand, they deem important to be employed in well-known domestic companies with high career prospects and to be empowered with decision-making, on the other hand, respondents have demonstrated deficit of team work and leadership competencies, conflict management skills, and, above all, they appear to have little awareness of what corporate culture in hospitality industry means. The research carried out in 2017 by the authors at the Faculty of Hospitality, Tourism and Sports Industry of Russian University of Economics in the course of the discipline “Foreign Language” proved the relevance of the formation of corporate competency in undergraduates by means of business games constructed on the principles of Synergetics. In this connection, the modernization of hospitality education, a focal point of which is defined as teaching to study, is required so that to enhance both students’ learning and their work employability.
