Abstract:
This article aims to support studies that explore the use of science and research approaches in teaching mathematics at high school in order to improve the quality of mathematics teaching. It shows that the aim of teaching is, in addition to acquiring the required knowledge, that pupils acquire certain skills and abilities that they could use in their future lives. There are examples of problem solving, suitable for inclusion in teaching at secondary school. There are also demonstrated various solving strategies that pupils can use to solve various problems. The aim here is to show the science-research approach and problem solving as a method by which pupils can discover new knowledge and learn by themselves. The article shows the way how to solve problems. The examples of the problems in the article consider experimentation. Experimentation is a typical strategy in a scientific-research approach to problem solving. The article shows that experimenting is the most appropriate strategy for solving the problems presented here.
