Abstract:

In Australia, educational qualifications are a prescribed requirement for licensing within the business brokerage industry, and each state and territory has varying degrees of educational aims and objectives. This research traces the historical progression of the educational requirements, which occurred during the last century to the current decade, for the business broker. Embedded within the discussion is the governments’ purpose and intent to introduce compulsory education and entry conditions such as industry experience. However, it is ultimately the licensee of the business brokerage agency who is considered accountable. Generally, the legislative obligations placed on business brokers can be enormous and time consuming. Therefore, this research paper examines the necessity to develop an appropriate curriculum to meet the changing needs of society. It is argued that the improved educational requirements best serve the needs of the consumer and compulsory education should be maintained.
