Abstract:
Present educational legislation replaces teaching of detailed contents to acquisition or improvement of several skills by student. Therefore the usual didactic act into university classroom, mostly concentrated on activity of transmitting the knowledge, must gradually give up to a more modern procedure. The authors pretend to overcome the Bologna Plan application for two mathematical subjects at first year in the ETS Agronomics Engineering of Madrid (E.T.S.I.A.), which belongs to the Technical University of Madrid (U.P.M.).
The experience of the first three years 2011-2014 of the new plan shows that the students often gave those subjects up earlier, indicating that a proper planning of teaching and learning is necessary. In the present work the selection of disciplines is indicated, and that is followed by analysis of the diverse procedures that have to be followed by professors and students, as methods of approaching the syllabus, emphasizing on how to train the students to get a best practical use of them.
Successive items contain procedures as pre-worked lesson, setting objectives and providing feedback, summarizing and taking notes, efficient use of time, continual assessment and tutoring, active learning exercises and transversal skills. The distribution of the limited available time is just after considered.
A work method is needed to achieve very flattering results, making the most advantage of the time by doing exercises, problems, questions, tests, exams into the classroom. And every individual or collective rewarded effort can motivate and encourage our students to study these disciplines. Consequently new kinds of tests will be required. Students will need to use not only the memory but understanding, creativity, practical applications…
Some indications are later given about general observations, practices and future possible research. And finally the conclusions to improve the performance of these subjects are given.
