Abstract:
For primary school pupils, face-to-face teaching is the most widely used of these forms, but the escalating epidemiological situation may overnight force the delivery of curricula into the online space. In this case, it is necessary to use digital learning tools that minimise the loss of quality and effectiveness of education.
In our study, we focused on the teaching of mathematics, including the practice of basic operations. To do this, we have developed an intelligent system that generates random mixed examples and exercises focusing on a specific mathematical operation set to different levels of difficulty. The program also logs the student's response to an example by monitoring several parameters. Based on the application provides feedback to the teacher. Based on the feedback, the teacher can compensate for any knowledge gaps in time with personalized examples to avoid difficulties later. The complexity of the software's feedback method lies in the fact that it does not produce a simple correct or incorrect output. With a deeper observation, it offers a repetition of specific areas to find the cause of the failure. With the application's assistance, the student can find out why the mistakes were made during the practice and correct them by paying attention. The instructor's role is to detect recurring errors, which can be done fast with the described software and further corrected with proper practice during, and then to practice it properly during the subsequent face-to-face consultations.
During the preparation of our project, we determined the patterns of the most common computational errors following consultations with mathematics teachers. Based on their feedback, the developed application can greatly facilitate personalized learning. In this paper we present the design and the results of the pilot. Based on the feedback received, we make suggestions for future enhancements of this application and similar software, resulting in a fully personalized learning experience through an intelligent tutoring system. Keywords:
