Abstract:
Names have a significant role in our everyday lives. The toponymical research will be become one of the most promising branches of historical linguistics in the near future in Slovakia.
In this study I present the current results of Hungarian toponymical research and its possibilities in education in Slovakia. The collection of Hungarian place names in Slovakia was somewhat realized in an organized manner, therefore I also touch upon the institutional background.
In my study I look at the collections and the principles and methods of publishing, which have not been uniform over the years. I deal with the methodological background of the collection of live language and I touch upon field work and the course of the collection as well. Furthermore I introduce the methods used during the collection of endonyms and exonyms.
In the following part of the study I deal with the possibilities of using the results of toponymical research in education. To this day, onomastics does not appear as a concrete curricular material within the mother tongue classes. Exercises with the nature of onomastics only come up in connection to some topics, and this is accounted for with the very little amount of lessons per week. The results of place name research can primarily be used on Hungarian language lessons. Onomastics is characterized by interdisciplinarity, thus I introduce its cross-subject use in school as well. Keywords:
