TEACHING THE ACTIONS ADDITION AND SUBTRACTION OF THE NUMBERS WITHIN 20 WITHOUT REGROUPING USING INTERACTIVE LIVE WORKSHEETS

Abstract:
In the current 2021 the first-grade mathematics curriculum /compulsory education/ in the Republic of Bulgaria is divided into six topics. The focus of the present study covers the topic related to the study of the arithmetic operations addition and subtraction of the numbers within 20 without regrouping.

The main objective of this paper is to present the package of e-learning content developed by the authors, which is experimented in the educational process of first-graders while teaching the important topic: "Addition and subtraction of numbers within 20 without regrouping". The e-learning package contains interactive live worksheets developed on the digital online platform https://www.liveworksheets.com/.

The experiment involved 144 first graders in the Republic of Bulgaria, divided into two groups - control and experimental. The created package with e-learning content was applied in the training of the students from the experimental group.

The main criterion in diagnosing and establishing the efficiency of the experiment is the degree of students’ acquisition of knowledge and skills for the arithmetic operations addition and subtraction of numbers within 20 without regrouping using pre-defined indicators.
Quantitative and qualitative analysis of the results is also presented.

The results of the conducted educational experiment definitely outline the conclusion that the use of the created package with e-learning content contributes to the mastery of knowledge and skills for: performing the actions of addition and subtraction of numbers within 20 without regrouping; comparison of the values of numerical expressions; use of the names of the components and the result when solving addition problems; knowledge of the elements of the word problems - condition, numerical data, question; recognition of the geometric figure rectangle; recognition of the elements of a triangle and a rectangle - the vertex as a point, the side as a segment.

The development and application of systematized interactive e-learning content supports the process of consolidating and improving the knowledge and skills of students in the study of the topic related to the arithmetic operations of addition and subtraction of numbers within 20 without regrouping. The competencies acquired by the students on this topic contribute to the easier assimilation of the educational mathematical content, provided in the following topics.
