DEVELOPING MASTER STUDENTS’ MOTIVATION IN ENGLISH FOR SPECIFIC PURPOSES LEARNING THROUGH THE USE OF THE EDMODO EDUCATIONAL INTERNET PORTAL

Abstract:
Nowadays, in the era of global professional collaboration, proficiency in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) is proved to be a crucial issue in Master students’ of non-linguistic major educational development.
Professional competitiveness of specialists requires a high level of professionally oriented communicative competence. Therefore, a good command in ESP is one of the major requirements for different spheres of employment in the world labor market.
Using the academic portal Edmodo as an additional part of the worked out integrated multimedia complex of the department-based syllabus for Computer Engineering graduate students at the University can be viewed as having a significant impact on effective professionally oriented communication in a teamwork and on the process of critical thinking skills' development to motivate studens to ESP learning not only during the University learning process, but in the future professional environment as well.
The article concerns the problem of motivation development of non-linguistic major graduate students as one of the important factors of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) successful learning. The impact of Edmodo Educational Internet Portal on Master students’ motivation in ESP learning is studied. The paper considers the results of the research, based on the survey, in the form of questionnaire, testing, interviews, and classroom observations to define the level of motivation of Master students’ in ESP learning at Southern Federal University, Russia. The graduates’ beliefs about Edmodo as the Internet learning platform to increase motivation are shown. The role of the department-based integrated multimedia ESP Course is discussed. The necessity of ESP skills development as a part of Master students' major professional competence for global collaboration with foreign specialists is maintained. The definitions of the terms “motivation” and “professionally oriented foreign language communicative competence” are given. Keywords:
