Abstract:
In March 16th 2020, the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) suspended all in-presence activities in response to the health emergency situation declared by the Basque Government and the state of alarm declared by the Spanish Government. In 8th April the face-to-face teaching suspension was extended until the end of the 2019-2020 academic course. This work describes the teaching alternative developed for the on-line teaching of the lab practices of the subject “Chemical Principles of Engineering” of the first year of “Industrial Engineering Degree” at the School of Engineering of Gipuzkoa. The lab experiments that could not be performed at the lab as consequence of the lockdown, were adapted in order to be carried out using the virtual platform implemented by the university. Videos of the lab experiments taken in previous years during the lab course were posted in the virtual platform and substituted the hands-on experience that was not possible due to the pandemic. The modifications adopted in teaching and evaluation allowed the students to finalize the lab practices during the 2019-2020 academic year.
