Abstract:
An indispensable condition for providing a modern high-quality educational process in higher school is the use of innovative technologies including telecommunication technologies which involve electronic educational resources (EER). The use of an EER contributes to improving and optimizing the learning process and increasing the effectiveness of training.

The use of an EER in foreign languages teaching takes on particular significance, as traditional methods of teaching give place to more advanced methods that can facilitate the perception and consolidation of the teaching material by students. At foreign language lessons an EER allows to train various types of speech activity, develop linguistic abilities, implement an individual approach, and activate student's individual work.

The article describes the structure of the electronic educational resource “English for Geographers (Physical Geography)” and provides guidance for students about working with the electronic course. Special attention is paid to the analysis of the main didactic principles underlying the construction of the electronic course, the advantages of electronic educational resources and the effectiveness of their use in the process of teaching a foreign language.

In the structure of the EER “English for Geographers (Physical Geography)” the role of extra-text components (interactive assignments, video material, chat, project work) was strengthened, likewise the age peculiarities of students and the didactic principles of the educational process were taken into account.

An EER is one of the modern means of a foreign language teaching. The use of an EER develops the ability to carry out information activities and interaction with students, moreover creative potential is intensified. An EER provides ample opportunities for the development of all types of speech activity, and also promotes an increase in motivation to learn a foreign language.
