Abstract:
There is a growing need to research if English teachers know about dyslexia, especially young teachers who are recently immersed in the teaching path. In the career of languages and Linguistics at the University of Guayaquil, many students aspire to become English teachers but do not have any experience. This fact served us to carry out a pilot study that consisted of an interview constructed on information about dyslexia.
The results indicate that most of them do not have the knowledge to identify and support dyslexic students. However, they stated their interest to become trained to gain further knowledge to develop their skills to teach possible future dyslexic students more effectively.
The aim of this research is to provide pre-service teachers with a descriptive guide and techniques to recognize and support dyslexic students in their EFL classrooms. It is necessary to manifest that they are very young and most of them are about to obtain their bachelor’s degrees. For this reason, we consider necessary for preservice teachers to know about dyslexia since on their way in the field of education, they could encounter this difficulty in their classrooms and with this guide, they could find solutions regarding dyslexia. Keywords:
