Abstract:
This study investigated the role of procrastination on students’ work and learning habits. The study is aimed at students in the lower secondary level in three medium-sized municipalities in Norway, and was conducted in the form of an online questionnaire. The sample consists of 915 students from 8th to 10th grade in five lower secondary schools. Correlation analysis and structural equation modelling indicated that procrastination increases from the 8th grade to 10th grade, which means that students have greater procrastination behavior and poorer work habits when they leave lower secondary school than when they start. The findings indicate that students who are struggling with procrastination are less motivated for schoolwork, and they also have poorer school performance. The relationship between procrastination and lack of motivation for schoolwork is still larger than the correlation between procrastination and failure to thrive in school. Keywords:
