Abstract:
The relevance of the study is due to the search for social resources to stimulate the intellectual activity of students of Russian universities. Previously, it was established the positive impact of trust on various aspects of extra-academic life of university communities. However, the influence of trust on the motivation of Russian students to educational and scientific activities is little studied. For Russian universities, increasing the intellectual activity of students is a very significant problem. Its solution will improve the quality of students' human capital and overcome their educational failure. In addition, in the future it will contribute to the formation of the core staff of young teachers and researchers. However, formal management approaches or pedagogical technologies are not enough to solve this problem.

The aim of the research is to study the peculiarities of the influence of trust relations at the University on the intellectual activity of Russian students.

Research tasks:
1. To characterize the intellectual activity of Russian students. To make a social portrait of intellectually active students.
2. To identify the level of trust between students and evaluate it as a factor of their intellectual activity.
3. To study students' trust to University teachers as a prerequisite for the formation of motivation for intellectual activity.
Empirical base of the article: 1. Results of the survey of university students in the Ural Federal District of Russia (n=1860, 2017). 51 universities of the Urals Federal District entered the general population. 2. The results of the focus-groups with students of Yekaterinburg universities (5 focus groups held, 2018). 3. The results of the survey of university students of Yekaterinburg (n=368, 2019). In the course of the study was implemented quota sample formed on the basis of statistical data on students of this city.

The article reflects the main results of the study:
1. The number of students in ordinary Russian universities motivated by active intellectual activity in recent years has not consistently exceeded 15%. For the most part, these are students who have had experience of successful research or project activities in the school. They have a strong internal achievement motivation, including education motivation. Their intellectual activity is weakly correlated with the systems of stimulation of scientific activity developed in universities.
2. The level of trust between students is average. On the median, the proportion of those students trust is 40% of the number of fellow students. This factor has practically no influence on scientific activity (as a rule, individual). Meanwhile, it has a negative impact on the educational activity of students, especially in the context of the implementation of project training. Project training requires teamwork based on trust in the training team.
3. A stable correlation between the trust of students to University teachers and the formation of their motivation for educational and research activity is revealed. It is shown that the trust to teachers arises and remains in direct interaction (face to face), in informal communication. It is concluded that it is necessary to preserve and develop the live interaction of students and teachers as opposed to online education. It serves as the main social resource for activation of intellectual activity of students.
