Abstract:
Today’s world is characterized by great instability and huge number of uncertainties. Society needs to adapt itself to these dynamics and must be able to generate mechanisms in order to anticipate change and react effectively to new challenges. It is required an awareness of a common destiny and a progressive creation of a world community in the learning process of self-discovery and self-management, launching local and regional identities.

Changing of paradigms are evident – particularly in education – as civil society is the key-player in the construction of a change strategy, with clear and strong prospects, based on shared reflected visions which have been jointly identified.

This work aims to analyze the generic role of higher education in the construction of knowledge that may help to solve defies that emerge from and to society. It will focus on a comparative analysis of educational delivery, by universities and polytechnics, available in various areas of knowledge, both under the formal and non-formal courses. We take as reference point the needs of the automotive supply industry, as this is an area that requires continuous updating of its human resources.

Initially it has been established a set of categories of analysis supported by the core competencies (conceptual and procedural) required in the concerned area. We have match the supply and the demand, keeping in mind that sustainable development is a never ending evolution process. Technical validation of the collected information has been done and a set of data were subject to interpretation.
