Abstract:
The paper discusses the important role of using ICT in teacher training and the Omani initiatives to integrate it in teacher training. It confers electronic training and coaching of teachers of English language at the Omani schools and proposes a unique training model to provide help and support for them with the use of online technologies.
To do so, the paper approaches some theories and models with regards to e-learning pedagogy and the technologies and tools used in communication. Synchronous and asynchronous tools are discussed along with wikis and VLEs.
Then the paper examines the current professional contexts with regards to classroom observation used in Oman and investigates its downsides by reviewing several researches and studies in this field. It then demonstrates the rationale behind this framework and justifies the use of online technologies in teacher training. The paper then discusses ways in which this the psposed model can be implemented in the Omani context when it comes to classroom observation; pre-lesson discussions, observation, post-lesson discussions and interaction stage. The paper wraps up with a discussion of the possible limitations of the application of this model.
In general, the paper reviews the current traditional supervision method used in Oman and merges it with the new online technologies to offer a model of training that encompasses both the traditional and modern ways of training based on the relevant literature and the current method used.
To do so, the paper discusses a wide variety of papers, researches, and journals related to supervision and training of teachers in Oman and internationally and also views some important studies with regards to the use of online technologies to promote communal learning among participants. It presents a deep review of the latest communication tools used nowadays online and finally proposes a model which coaches and trainers can use to train their teachers with the use of electronic technologies.Keywords:
