Abstract:
One of the most important projects to improve higher education is a project called "Tuning Educational Structures ". It offers a joint of descriptions of the competences that would be necessary to develop in major students in general but in specific ways in some areas of knowledge. However, there is not this kind of description in visual communication and graphic design areas. In order to implement a graphic design major program based on competences is necessary to define clearly what those specifics competences are according to the graduate profile.

To address this reflection is kept fixed the project Tuning Educational Structures in Latin America and Mexico, to provide education for competitions where they realize the concrete expression of the resources the individual is at stake when conducting an activity, and emphasizes the linkage of knowledge in relevant conditions, these skills are capitalized in the design process stages considering analytical, strategic and production
The objective of this research is to design strategies for the development of generic and disciplinary competences in the graphic design student in accordance with the redesign of the undergraduate program curriculum.

In addition to the university to which the program belongs, is based on a pedagogical model curriculum by competences and it is currently taken as a reference for the design, operation and evaluation of academic programs to meet the educational necessities in order to answer to the requirements that are presented at the institutional and professional changes and demands of the labor field today.
This way of working demands a change of perspective to establish the environment and learning conditions, so it is necessary to design the learning experiences considering the contexts of influence around the design problems. This strategies requires understanding of diversity, interdisciplinarity, and dialogue to form students as estrategist, productor and manager.
