Abstract:
In this study, Turkish university students’ opinions on studying abroad are investigated. The study group consisted of 200 students from Yıldız Technical University. The descriptive work is formed by collection of data via a survey developed by the researchers, interpreting them by using frequencies and percentages, and further, interviews with students from the group. Results of the study show that Turkish students have willingness for studying in foreign countries, especially in the US and the UK. Students reported that, they wanted to study abroad for learning/practising foreign language, meeting new people and cultures, use of “studying abroad” for employment applications, and experience in different educational systems, respectively. For this last reason, in general, students indicated that they believe foreign systems pay more attention to the practice than the theory and individual differences are taken more into consideration. Keywords:
