Abstract:
One of the reasons that led us to undertake this research is that there are hardly any studies on the subject in our country. Some values are transmitted through cartoons both for its content and for its aesthetic, and it becomes important to know the quality of the television consumed by children. There are some studies that value violence on TV and how it affects children, but none specifically talks about cartoon.
We've analyzed the cartoons that are broadcast on television these days in Spain. In total, 163 series of different nationalities and more than 600 characters. To proceed with this research, we have conducted an analysis method with different variables that has allowed us to obtain an overview of the quality of animation today.
Thanks to this method we have been able to know which are the most used animation techniques and their quality, to the messages they convey and the behavior of the main characters.
Some of the most relevant results indicate that still exist today many series of cartoons where there is no gender equality, where there is much violence. Moreover, it appears that the characters are always the same, with the same concerns and living very similar lives. The feeling is that, even if we change channels, we continue to see the same. The production companies repeat over and over again formulas that worked once. When a cartoon series succeeds, hundreds appear to endlessly repeat the same scheme until it becomes tedious.
That's why most of cartoons are so similar to each other. Keywords:
