SATISFACTION WITH THE MENTOR: VARIABLES THAT BETTER EXPLAIN IT

One of the concerns of those responsible for mentoring programs at the University consists of looking indicators to justify their effectiveness. The satisfaction with the mentoring relationship is one of the most extended criteria. The aim of this paper is to identify which variables have greater weight in explaining the satisfaction with the mentor, and consider to what extend there exist differences regarding gender and role played during the program.

The sample consisted of 483 subjects, 156 mentors, 272 mentees and 55 teachers, tutors, participating in mentoring programs from different Spanish universities. Of these, 60.66% are male and 39.34% women.

The results show that the four variables that explain more satisfaction with the mentor are the perception by mentees that the topics are appropriate, the frequency of mentoring meetings, the number of them and two mentor’s skills. On the other hand, there are some differences regarding gender and role variables.
