Abstract:
In the Department of Mechanical Engineering there is a permanent task of research projects for training centers as well as for companies. The works carried out in this Department imply a benefit for both. Thus, the research provides the company with means of optimization and productivity improvement and it benefits the University which, in this way, affords a breakthrough in research and educational growth of the students.

One of the works developed in our department has been the study of the dynamic effects generated in a machining operation for a particular machine. This is an innovative project that allows the company to know the effect of the machine design on a machining operation. The results obtained with this program will serve for the user to accurately determine the dynamic characteristics of the machine before its construction. The application requires previous study of the machine-piece modes by finite elements. Later, it is observed the projection or contribution of each mode in the direction of chip thickness. Finally the resolution is obtained from the equation of vibration by numerical calculation. One of the key-steps when carrying out the project, is the format in which the application is provided to the company. In this case, we have developed a comprehensive user interface that simulates the dynamic analysis model of the machine in an easy and intuitive way.
