Abstract:
This study aims at evaluating the status quo of using ICT among resource rooms teachers in Amman- Jordan schools, the study attempted to describe the extent to which ICT has been applied; finding out the nature of devices and infrastructure used, the extent to which teachers use available ICT resources; and obstacles that hinder their use. A questionnaire was developed and sent to the sample of the study which consisted of all members of the study population (137) teachers. The returned questionnaires were (97), thus, representing (70%) of the total population. Results indicated that the percentage of availability of tools and devices was limited; most educational programs available at resource rooms were Word Processor, PowerPoint, Drawing related programs, and educational games programs; the difficulty of access to internet, lack of educational programs that are suitable for students with special needs, and lack of educational devices were viewed as most obstacles encountered by special education teachers; significant differences were found between special education teachers in public and private schools in terms of using ICT in favor of private schools. Results also revealed significant differences among special education teachers in terms of their educational qualifications, teachers holding Doctorate or Master degree used ICT more often than teachers holding Bachelor degree.
