Abstract:
The project "Pensar la Matemática I", funded by the ULPGC, aims to improve the teaching of mathematics in all teaching areas.

In recent decades, the educational world has neglected the knowledge of mathematical content, forgetting to promote mathematical thinking and critical reasoning in students. Reversing this situation is the aim of the Educational Innovation group "Pensar la Matemática", which is developing this work and is made up of university and secondary school teachers.

As a first step, the group has proposed a line of work consisting of the creation of a workbook for Baccalaureate students and new entrants to the University with 126 solved exercises differentiated by blocks and levels of difficulty. The established blocks are: Miscellaneous, Numbers and Algebra, Analysis, Geometry, and Statistics and Probability. They cover the usual contents of the high school and many of the current mathematics subjects of the Engineering and Architecture Branch and the Social Sciences Branch.

With this material we get students to develop problems that require them to use reasoning strategies to apply what they know, and thus learn to enhance their ability to relate, choose the most appropriate method to solve the situation and critically evaluate the results obtained.
