Abstract:

This research builds on a hypothesis that there are no significant differences found in both genders formal writing, and significant differences are found in creative writing. In that, this study investigates and compares types of differences that occur in gender’s creative writing. This study invites language teachers to rethink writing instruction and revalue their effectiveness based on the writing needs of each gender in such genre. Based on data of this research, language teachers will be able to direct choice of stories, and to design writing activities for both genders to overcome writing difficulties and to perfect writing. Eighty samples were studied from boys and girls friendly letter writing in the United Arab Emirates, Dubai. Set of data was extracted for each group and handled quantitatively and qualitatively comparing general letter format, expression of feelings, choice of lexicon, self esteem and voice, and page tidiness and choice of colors.
Based on the findings of this research, creative writing was found to be similar to speech in that it invites girls to let their personal experiences and feelings intrude, on contrary, boys’ creative writing showed domination and aggrandizements of self.
