Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to explore the motivational processes in actual classroom settings and its relation with learning and performance goals. The study also aims at investigating what and why students use one of these goals rather than another one. The literature show that the students who use the performance goals are more focusing on their own abilities and they might be broken from their first failure they encounter. Yet, those students who use the learning goals are more self-confident and like to be challenged. The participants of this study are 300 grade -12 students from the public schools in the United Arab Emirates. A mixed method will be used in conducting this study: a questionnaire and focus group will be used to collect data from the targeted population of this study. The findings of this study will be beneficial for the teachers, parents and the policy maker of the education in the United Arab Emirates. Keywords:
