Abstract:
Eight programs in the College of Engineering are planned to undergo accreditation by ABET in 2013. Four of the programs are currently fully accredited while four others have substantial equivalency recognition. Steps followed by the college to assure quality of the programs will be outlined. The departments used to follow unnecessarily a more comprehensive assessment method that was time consuming and overloading the faculty. An outcome based assessment tool that is more sustainable has now been devised to assess students learning. The departments have determined for each programs the courses and students outcomes that will be evaluated and assessed. This paper will give an overview of the assessment and accreditation process. It will describe the prepared assessment plans, the students outcomes, developed performance indicators and the tool used to assess students learning. Examples showing some preliminary assessment results for continuous improvement will also be illustrated. Keywords:
