Abstract:
Currently, the assessment of transversal competencies is one of the main challenges at Universities as lecturers/professors have experience in the assessment of the specific competencies of courses but, in most cases, lack background on the assessment of transversal competencies. The UPV (Universitat Politècnica de València) has identified thirteen transversal competencies that students have to develop when studying all its degrees. After the certification process of ABET at UPV, it was identified the importance of collecting evidences of the assessment of transversal competencies showing its degree of development. One of UPV transversal competencies is "effective communication." "Effective communication" is an essential skill for all students at Master degree because these studies prepare students to work at the highest levels of companies in which effective communication is absolutely necessary in most cases. This paper presents an assessing method for the oral dimension of effective communication in order to collect evidences of the degree of development in students. This method has been applied on the course "Performance Management Systems" belonging to the Master in Production Advanced Engineering, Logistics and Supply Chain (IAPLCS) at UPV. The developed assessing method has been implemented during this academic year to motivate students to improve their degree of development in this skill. After the positive results obtained in this academic year, the same method will be used next years.
