Abstract:

There is an increase of new media technology in art and design education. Technology has a significant impact in the field of art and has become a unique teaching and learning tool for teachers and students. Most art and design teachers are yet to integrate the use of technology in their classrooms. Technology is seen now as a creative tool that helps to bring out the artistic skills in both teachers and students. We live in a technology age, and while it is still necessary to teach art and design using traditional media, it is paramount to stay abreast of new media in teaching as there are numerous advantages in the application of technology. This article, therefore, presents an overview of digital technology in art and design education. Also, information is given on the various ways that technology has impacted teaching and learning in the classroom. Furthermore, the paper concludes by identifying the various technologies available for effective teaching and learning.
